About us

The Storey Arms is Cardiff’s outdoor education centre. We offer courses and activities to people living in Cardiff and to visitors from the UK and abroad.

The outdoor education centre in the heart of the Brecon Beacons.

The Storey Arms has been operating as part of the City of Cardiff Council’s Education Service since 1971.

We offer residential and day visits for schools, youth groups and families as well as corporate days out, teambuilding and days out with a difference.

We welcome groups from Wales, the rest of the United Kingdom and abroad.

In association with National Governing Bodies of outdoor activities, we also run qualification courses allowing adults to lead groups in hill walking and rock climbing.

  • General Activities
  • Adult Activities
  • Team Activities
  • Youth Activities

Our programmes are aimed at young people from 9 to 18 years old, higher education students and adults.

We also work with teachers and those working in higher education so that they can gain qualifications and develop skills to deliver outdoor activities.

Our outdoor education programmes are designed to develop a variety of skills within a group:

  • Physical – the outdoor activities themselves;
  • Social – learning to live within a small community;
  • Emotional – learning to challenge one’s own limits to increase self-confidence and self-reliance.

Our programmes also address issues of sustainability and understanding our natural environment.
