Closure of Storey Arms Camping Area – Summer 2021

As with all outdoor centres, the Storey Arms Centre has been closed since March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

As things are starting to ease, we are hoping that we will be able to re-open for day visits in the near future, with residential visits shortly after.

We will be operating within all the recommended guidelines to ensure that we are Covid-secure and this means that we will need to make full use of the indoor and outdoor resources that we have at the centre. This includes the camping area, camping shelter and outside toilets.

With this in mind, we felt that if we were to welcome camping groups to the centre, management of the facilities would become even more complicated.

For that reason, we have reluctantly decided that we are going to close the camping area for this summer to outside groups.

I do hope that you understand our position.  We really do need to prioritise our work programme and unfortunately, the camping area is not a large part of our work.

You might be able to find alternative camping facilities at the following locations, both of which are situated a short walk down the Drovers’ Road from the Storey Arms.

Our response to the current Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak

As of 23 March 2020, as a result of the UK Government and Welsh Assembly Government advice, the Storey Arms Centre has suspended all courses.

Our staff team is now working from home, unless helping Cardiff Council with essential services in the Cardiff area, where appropriate.

We have already started to contact schools and groups who had been planning to come to the centre. If you haven’t heard from us yet, please be patient.

In practical terms:

If you need to speak to us, please contact us by email at storeyarms@cardiff.gov.uk or use one of our contact forms on our Contact Us page. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

We will be paying close attention to the advice from Cardiff Council and all the relevant Government sources, to develop our response to this changing situation.

We hope that you and your family stay safe and well.

You will be aware that access to the mountains within the National Park is severely restricted.  Please check out the Brecon Beacons National Park website www.breconbeacons.org and the Natural Resources Wales website www.naturalresources.wales for information on the closure of trails, car parks, etc.

We support the Government’s advice that driving to undertake a walk is regarded as non-essential travel – please walk from your home.
